Years later, it all comes full circle. I appreciate you!!

NEW FREESTYLE: Redhead – Red Zone: The Ferguson Coverage

20140901-011413.jpg

I decided to drop a freestyle about the recent events of Ferguson, Missouri over one of my favorite beats – Rae Sremmurd’s No Flex Zone – after pretty much watching CNN and having numerous conversations with friends and colleagues about the whole situation. Some of my friends have went to Ferguson and told me stories while I was at protests for the cause here in Washington, DC. I don’t like the recent coverage as displayed by our media thus far, and I don’t like the complacency of the youth when it comes to these situations happening time and time again. I feel we need to have another conversation and further understand each other. Don’t you? I like to be safe and focused instead of lost and frustrated.

P.S. After I posted this freestyle on my Twitter page, a young man who suffers from Sickle Cell Anemia responded to me and we had a dope conversation. Check it out!

Recently, I visited the University of Maryland in College Park to perform at their student-run radio station WMUC. I decided to perform my song Talk White because I love performing it. After walking around the campus for an hour to find the place (sooooo huge!), I found the spot and helped set up with the staff before showtime.

What didn’t occur to me was that there was a contest involved with other awesome artists, and I was voted as the best performer. My prize was a slot to perform in Brooklyn, NY with acclaimed artist Nitty Scott, MC. I’m honored for this occasion and I’m gonna go so hard in the set up there. If you live in New York or visiting, go to the right side of my page for the show’s information and come see me live! Here’s some pics from the event.

RECAP VIDEO: Meridian Block Party Performance (8/16/2014)

This past weekend, I performed at the annual Meridian Block Party in Columbia Heights DC for the 3rd year in a row. This was somewhat of an interesting opportunity because I performed in a group the previous two years. On behalf of that, I’ve decided to set up a solo set where I would basically be on stage for 45 minutes long. Yes, you read this right: 45 MINUTES! I even broke the set in the middle to include one-half of the duo Deuce & Oeaux to perform “Bowflex” and let him do a freestyle for the crowd, which definitely had people hype. Shouts to the homies Flex Mathews, Aquil, Stacy, and Navid who I also saw up there.

Unfortunately, my cameraman couldn’t make it to tape any of the performance (wack), but I’ve included a little video that I taped myself from the event. It’s about a man that periodically kept coming to us and wanting to speak on the mic and finally getting his chance….to profess his love? You decide.

NEW VLOG: Conversations with @Ejax Pt. 2

20140813-175326.jpg

A couple of days ago, I was asked to do an interview for an upcoming television show based on the recurring LaZHour Show that I’ve been visiting a lot. As I was taping the pilot episode, my homegirl @Ejax came over and decided to do her segment of Conversations with me to discuss what she learned about business and relationships. It’s a small video, but here you go for your viewing pleasure!

P.S. For those who haven’t seen her 1st installment on my YouTube page, check it out below:

ARCHIVES: 2010 Interview with @JoyDaily on JoyDaily.TV w/ Redhead, Product, King Kan, & Carty-Yeah

joydailylogo

This interview is a throwback for the ages! It features the homies Product, King Kan, and Carty-Yeah. This night was actually hilarious and it defines how hard we individually “grind” in order to get to a point in life where we feel we’re successful. Joy Daily is a journalist that has interviewed countless artists and celebrities in the hiphop world and hosts an underground radio show in New York City. Product knew Joy from their days in high school and set up a time where himself, King Kan, and Carty would appear on the show as guests to talk about the DC hiphop scene. They invited me to come along with them due to their support of my work, and I’m very appreciative of that. We drove for nearly 4 hours in Product’s two-door Scion (5 people deep, mind you) to get there. Anyway, the show started at 10pm and we got kind of lost along the way on the Jersey turnpike (No GPS, just an IPhone navigation courtesy of Kan). We left the car somewhere on 9th avenue and ran as fast as we could to the studio. The guard initially didn’t want us to get in because the show was almost over, but they spared us, and Joy was gracious enough to extend her time to accommodate us despite another show starting right after hers. We appreciate that immensely! Moral of the story, plan routes out accordingly to places and beware of energy drinks that keep you up until 2PM the next day.

NEW VIDEO: Redhead Auditions for BET Cypher 2014

20140729-123252.jpg

For the 2014 Hot 16 contest sponsored by BET.com and Sprite, I’ve decided to join the contest to possibly be featured in the cypher series for the annual BET Hip Hop Awards. I’ve always wanted to be a part of that segment, but never got around to being involved. I made this video on the fly and recorded a verse over a track provided by DJ Drama. Hope you guys and the BET staff appreciate the work.

NEWS: Redhead To Appear on The Cristina Payne Show on 6/25/14

While still recording new music that I want to express to the world of my newest transitions, I’ve been asked by my super good friend Cristina Payne to appear on her Internet radio show (as well as co-hosts Troy Lamont and Rallo Boykins) to talk about my work in honor of Black Music Month. From there, I will speak about Exxxactly, upcoming shows, and all things connecting my brand. Don’t worry if you won’t be near a computer to listen to the show; I’ll have video coverage on deck for the occasion later in the evening.

On Wednesday, June 25th at 1pm, please visit www.listenvisionlive.com and check it out!

NEW MUSIC: The FarEXP (feat. Redhead) – The Expansion (Album)

20140617-233100.jpg

Before I post this album, I have to briefly explain its context. Back in 2012 after the release of my mixtape The Schemata, I was approached to join a hiphop group called The FarEXP. I accepted the offer based on the inclusion of two members whom I’ve known for many years, even though I wasn’t aware of the music nor how they operate. After several recording sessions coupled with endless amount of fights & bickering, I quit the group on my own accord at the top of 2014 and decided to let them do what they wanted to do for the sake of the album. If you’re a fan of underground boom-bap rap music reminiscent of Slum Village & Souls of Mischief, you can take a listen. Production on this album is from UnOwn, Kev Brown, & Oddisee.
